Flood warnings active across five states; flash-flood risk lingers in the Southwest after Rachel's remnants hit Nevada
Good morning. Weather leads the day. ABC News reports the National Weather Service has issued more flood watches and is warning of further showers and isolated thunderstorms across the Southwest after the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel caused severe flooding in Nevada over the weekend. If you are working the Southwest, treat the flash-flood risk as ongoing.
Active NWS flood warnings, by the office that issued them: NWS Lake Charles LA has Flood Warnings for Calcasieu, LA, and for Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson and Orange, TX; NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC for Henderson and Transylvania, NC; NWS Jacksonville FL for Brantley, GA; and NWS Melbourne FL for Lake and Volusia, FL. On the coast, The Washington Post reports California beaches and homes were slammed by waves from Tropical Storm Rachel, with some houses marked unsafe after the ground washed away beneath them — a structural hazard for anyone operating near affected shoreline.
Rescue and EMS: NJ.com reports paramedics pulled a woman from her burning car after her Honda Accord struck a toll plaza abutment on the Delaware Memorial Bridge, flipped and caught fire; she was hospitalized.
Zoom out: The Los Angeles Times reports a record-breaking season of Pacific tropical storms and hurricanes is battering the Southern California coast.
