Four Corners flooding still running into the weekend as new rescues and more rain are reported

Active flood warnings remain in effect across San Juan County, New Mexico, and Archuleta County, Colorado, as outlets report fresh rescues and more rain on the way.

Lead item. The National Weather Service office in Albuquerque has Flood Warnings in effect for San Juan County, New Mexico, and the office in Grand Junction has a Flood Warning for Archuleta County, Colorado — all rated severe. NPR reports intense rainfall slammed the Four Corners region late this week, that rivers flooded, and that towns declared evacuations and emergencies and made rescues. NBC News reports catastrophic flooding in the Four Corners prompted new rescues with more rain on the way, and that it says millions are on alert for high tides on both coasts. If you are working the West this shift, treat this as an incident still in progress: the warnings are current, not a recap.

Fire. Satellite systems reported fire detections over eight states on the day — Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina and Arkansas — and none of these detections is confirmed by any agency. Treat them as leads to verify against your own dispatch, not as incidents. Separately, Firefighter Close Calls reports that a 35-year-old member of the St Lucie County Fire District in Florida was found unresponsive in his bunk in cardiac arrest in quarters this morning, was worked by his crew and transported, and died. We are not naming him; no agency has confirmed next-of-kin notification to us.

EMS. The Florida firefighter's death above is the day's EMS-relevant item; the firefighter's own crew ran the arrest.

Law enforcement. The New York Post reports, citing family, that NYPD officers shot a 38-year-old woman in Queens after she took a knife from her brother. Fox News reports a 48-year-old Missouri woman was killed when an Independence Police Department SUV responding to an emergency struck her car outside Kansas City, and says key details remain unknown. The Guardian reports bodycam and security footage of the June shooting death of a one-year-old in Senatobia, Mississippi, was released on 21 October, after the Mississippi attorney general said the shooting was justified. ABC News reports a man was convicted of murder for striking and killing a county deputy with his car the day after his teenage son was fatally shot by a Cincinnati police officer.

Rescue. The Oregonian reports four hikers were rescued from the Rock of Ages trail in the Columbia River Gorge, a route it says has been unmaintained since 2017 — a closed-trail call worth noting if you cover that terrain.

Dispatch and EM. NJ.com reports the Essex County Sheriff's Office swept the Turtle Back Zoo early-voting site after what it describes as a viable bomb threat called in Saturday morning, and that the polling site has since reopened. In the far Aleutians, NWS Anchorage has severe Storm Warnings for the Kiska to Attu Bering and Pacific sides.
