Coast Guard searching for an air ambulance with six aboard that dropped off radar off Massachusetts

Good morning. The most consequential item for an EMS or rescue shift: the U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing air ambulance carrying six people, according to NPR and The Guardian. The Guardian reports the jet was undertaking a medical evacuation from Bermuda when it lost contact with the Federal Aviation Administration. NPR reports flight data shows the jet dropped at least 9,000 feet over two minutes, then leveled off for several minutes, before disappearing. The search was off the coast of Massachusetts. No outcome had been reported.

Weather and emergency management. The National Weather Service has Flood Warnings (severe) out across the region. NWS Topeka lists Clay County, Kansas. NWS Omaha/Valley lists Saline and Seward counties, Nebraska. NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill lists a cluster in Missouri — Chariton, Howard and Saline; Boone, Cooper, Howard and Moniteau; Buchanan; and Linn and Livingston. If your district sits in that corridor, expect water-rescue and road-closure demand. Separately, ABC News reports Hurricane Nolo reached Category 3 in the remote Pacific with maximum sustained winds rapidly intensifying to 115 mph.

Unconfirmed fire activity. Satellite fire detections were reported — and not confirmed by any agency — over eight states: 112 over Indiana, 74 over California, 63 over Idaho, 58 over Ohio, 37 over Illinois, 30 over Louisiana, 29 over Texas and 26 over Alabama. Treat these as raw signals, not incidents, until an agency confirms.

Fire. NJ.com reports five New Jersey firefighters were injured in a crash while responding to an emergency call; officials did not release what led to the fire truck crash.

Law enforcement. The Tampa Bay Times reports a Pasco County deputy fatally shot a man armed with a knife at a Hudson shopping center. The Los Angeles Times reports a longtime bus driver was killed in the Culver CityBus shooting and a suspect was arrested. The Oregonian reports Portland police detained four men after midnight gunfire in Old Town. Cleveland.com reports Westlake police arrested a man for obstruction and drug paraphernalia. NBC News and the New York Post report Cornell University police made a drug-related arrest at a fraternity house about 22 hours before an alleged sexual assault, per police records.
