Morning Situation Report

Daily Briefing

Water is the day's dominant hazard — flood and storm warnings run from the Four Corners to the Bering Sea

Good morning. Plan around water first. The NWS has severe Flood Warnings out for Brewster, Texas (NWS Midland/Odessa) and twice for Socorro, New Mexico (NWS Albuquerque). NPR reports the Four Corners region remains on a flood watch after days of heavy rain and winds; ABC News reports the flood warning is lingering and that soaked towns face sewage-tainted waters. Expect contaminated floodwater on any Southwest response — dress for it.

On the coasts, The Guardian reports the NWS warned Southern California of potentially record-breaking tides and told coastal residents to avoid beaches and stay well back from the ocean. NBC News reports king tides flooding communities in both California and Florida. In Alaska, NWS Anchorage has severe Storm Warnings for Saint Matthew Island Waters and two Bering Sea offshore zones. If you cover any of these waters, high-water and swiftwater posture applies.

Fire: Firefighter Close Calls reports — unconfirmed by any agency — that a fire district employee was hospitalized after a brush fire truck rolled over multiple times in Madison County, Ohio, on Monday morning; the outlet attributes the account to the Central Townships Joint Fire District. Wildfire Today reports, also unconfirmed, that nearly $20M was awarded to rural Texas fire departments for wildfire preparation, with the Texas A&M Forest Service citing a resource gap at volunteer departments. The day's incident record also flags, unconfirmed and with no outlet or agency attached, firefighters injured at a Brockton, Massachusetts fire with multiple rescues, plus satellite fire detections over Ohio, Indiana and North Carolina. Watch for agency confirmation before acting on any of these.
